2024 School Academic Calendar: Important Dates for Terms 2 and 3

The ministry of Education through Cabinet Secretary CS Ezekiel Machogu has unveiled plans to mitigate the 2024 term 2 school calendar that saw two-week learning delays caused by recent heavy rains .

 

As earlier captured in the Full year academic calendar,second term of this year was slated to start on April 29, 2024.

 

Unfortunately, all students were forced to remain at home after encountering a one-week delay resulting from the intensified rains, as per to the announcement from Machogu.

 

In addition, President William Ruto issued another directive which extended the closure of schools indefinitely following the continued flooding, saying that this decision was reached at revised from the advisories from the Kenya Meteorological Department.

As per to the new term two calender, the schools are set to commence on May 13 and conclude on August 5th, 2024.

 

All students are expected to have a midterm break from June 20th to 23rd, and later followed by an extended three-week holiday from August starting from 5th to 25th August.

 

On the other hand, teachers’ training institutions currently also under the ministry of education will conduct term two from April 29 to August 2nd 2024.

These institutions will also go for holidays from August 5 to 30th August 2024.

 

Here is the comprehensive revised school calendar for the second term 2024.

 

May 13th Nationwide school reopening after an extended closure following rains.

 

June 20th All schools Half-term break for four days.

 

August 5th start of August holidays (note that the dates may be subject to change based on ministry directives).

 

August 23th: All Schools reopening for start of term three.

 

It is important to note that term three,which the final term of the academic year is expected to run for nine weeks.

 

The term starts from August 26th to October 25th .

 

Learners will do Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and also the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA) which are scheduled for October 28th to 31st, 2024.

Later, Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams will kick off from November 4th to 22nd .

 

Thereafter exams, students will enjoy a long December holiday starting from October 28 to January 3, 2025.

 

For the teacher training institutions ,their last term will last from August 26th to November 8th,2024.

 

Later on, these institutions will break for an extended December holiday from November 11th to January 3rd, 2025
