Category of School Determines Student Success at KCSE- Survey. The Usawa Lobby group in its survey has deduced that the category of School your child will attend will determine his/her success/failures.

While carrying out the survey in Sub-County, county, extra county,National and private schools it was discovered that the marks that a learner scores in primary school does not greatly influence his/her performance in secondary school.

While conducting the survey in these school, it came out that National schools are way better than those other schools in the lower cadre since they enjoy a range of facilities which are not found in these other schools. These facilities may be classes, Laboratories and others. These schools are also well staffed and funded.

Due to the disparity in resource allocation in these schools, you will find that the category of School will greatly affect the students’ Performance as opposed to the marks scored in primary school.

“In essence, sub-county schools offer the least opportunity to excel while the national schools offer the best opportunity to excel,” Usawa Agenda says in its findings.

The Usawa Lobby group further deduced that students attending private schools are more likely to get 1.1 points more in KCSE as compared to those in special schools who are likely to score 0.86 points less.

During the survey, it was also noted that those students who attend schools with trained medical personnel are likely to excel with 0.38 more points while those who attend schools with principals with management training score 0.5 points more in their KCSE.

“The highest ranked schools in Kenya — national schools enjoy great privilege compared to the lowest ranked ones — subcounty schools both in staffing and funding,” the survey found.

The report also shows that women are not well represented both in the management of schools and Boards of Management as chairs as compared to their male counterparts.
