Do no Victimize Protesting JSS Teachers, TSC Told
|Do no Victimize Protesting JSS Teachers, TSC Told. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has received a directive not to target any Junior Secondary School (JSS) teacher who took part in the nationwide demonstrations today.
The Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) Nandi Executive Secretary, Paul Rotich, emphasized this stance while delivering a petition to Dr. Nancy Macharia, the Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Commission, through the TSC Nandi County Director.
Rotich clarified that the purpose of the demonstrations is to advocate for permanent and pensionable terms for JSS teachers, aligning with a recent court ruling.
Rotich emphasized, “Following the Employment and Labour (Relations) Court judgment by Hon. Justice Ongaya on legality of internship and Teachers Service Commission, we appeal that the TSC immediately employs the interns on Permanent and Pensionable terms.”
In their petition to TSC, he urged the commission to not only employ the interns permanently but also to withdraw its appeal of the case and ensure full compensation for the affected teachers.

Moreover, Rotich stressed that the TSC should compensate the interns for the salary disparities between internships and permanent positions.
He asserted, “No JSS teacher engaging in this agitation should be intimidated or victimized.” Throughout the nation, JSS teachers, organized by various branches of KUPPET, held demonstrations today, urging the TSC to confirm them to permanent roles and withdraw its appeal case.
This call comes after the Employment and Labour Relations Court deemed internship employment by TSC unlawful.
