He assured that these classrooms would be ready by January 2025, coinciding with the enrollment of Grade 9 students in schools.

Kipsang emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling this responsibility, ensuring that learners have conducive environments for their education.

Recognizing the importance of providing high-quality education, Kipsang affirmed the government’s dedication to supplying the necessary human resources. He mentioned the recruitment of 20,000 teachers by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) in the upcoming financial year, which would support the implementation of the junior school curriculum.

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu addressed concerns raised by Nominated Senator Eddy Oketch regarding preparations to accommodate Grade 9 students. Machogu revealed a shortfall of 15,021 classrooms nationwide for the incoming cohort.

However, he assured that the ministry had assessed the situation and presented the findings to the Senate.

To address the infrastructure gap, Machogu outlined various initiatives. The government provided a conditional grant of Sh3.39 billion to the National Government-Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF) to access infrastructure resources, which would be used for building classrooms.

Additionally, the World Bank allocated Sh9 billion for the construction of 9,000 schools, totaling 15,000 classrooms. Machogu explained that the CDF would match the funding from their allocation, resulting in the construction of more classrooms.

This effort aimed to establish 6,000 integrated resource centers for junior Secondary Schools, further enhancing the educational infrastructure across the country.

In anticipation of the Grade 9 learners’ admission, Machogu assured that the government was diligently working to ensure that necessary infrastructural developments were completed in schools by that particular year.
