Fully funded UK Scholarships For Kenyan Students; How to Apply
|The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom, has opened applications for the 2025 academic year, providing full scholarships to Kenyan citizens pursuing Master’s and PhD degrees in the UK.
Announced through MyGov on Tuesday, August 27, this initiative offers a substantial educational opportunity for qualified individuals, reinforcing the country’s dedication to academic and professional development.
The scholarships will be granted to 10 PhD candidates and 19 Master’s students, covering all costs at any approved UK university that hosts CSC scholars. In addition to personal academic growth, the program seeks to contribute to Kenya’s development through the expertise that returning scholars will bring.
Prospective applicants should note that the online application portal opens on September 10, with a closing deadline of October 15, 2024. After applying online, candidates must also submit printed copies of their applications to the Ministry of Education by 5:00 p.m. on October 17, 2024.
Eligibility for Master’s scholarships requires strong academic credentials, with applicants needing a Bachelor’s degree of at least second class upper division from an accredited university. In addition, they must provide two referee statements and a proposal explaining how their studies will benefit Kenya’s development.
PhD applicants must hold a Master’s degree and provide similar references, alongside a statement from a prospective UK supervisor.
The Ministry stressed that only shortlisted applicants will be contacted, underscoring the competitive nature of the process. Being nominated by the Ministry does not guarantee selection, as the final decision is made by the CSC. The Ministry also warned against submitting false documents, as this will lead to legal action.
To apply, candidates must complete an online application through the CSC website and download a Standard Scholarship Application Form from the Ministry of Education’s website. This form, along with certified documents, must be submitted in triplicate to the Directorate of Higher Education.
This scholarship presents a key opportunity for Kenyans aspiring to study abroad, providing a path to personal academic growth and contributing to national progress. The partnership between the Ministry of Education and CSC highlights the importance of higher education and the global opportunities it brings.
Interested applicants are encouraged to visit the Ministry of Education and CSC websites for further details and to ensure they meet all the requirements.
