Ndindi Nyoro, the Chair of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee, has reassured the 46,000 Junior Secondary School (JSS) intern teachers that the funds needed to transition them to permanent and pensionable positions are readily available.

During a homecoming event for Cooperatives Cabinet Secretary Wycliffe Oparanya, Nyoro sought to ease concerns regarding the funding, which had surfaced after the 2024 Finance Bill failed to pass into law. He called on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to expedite the process of confirming the teachers and issuing them with permanent and pensionable (PnP) letters.

Nyoro’s remarks come just days after John Mbadi, a key figure in the National Treasury, made conflicting statements during a television interview, claiming that there were no available funds for the teachers’ confirmation.

These teachers, who have been serving under internship contracts for two years, recently received a significant boost from the Employment and Labour Relations Court. The court declared the internship arrangement unconstitutional and ordered the TSC to promptly confirm the teachers to permanent positions.
