How to Apply for TSC Number 2024

TSC requires that no teacher should teach in any school be it public or private without having registered by the commission. This came into full effect when former education CS Dr. Fred matiang’i made it clear in 2016 barring nonregistered teachers from teaching in any school.

At the start of these year in February, the commission issued amendment bill 2024 on the new requirements for registration of teachers under the Competency based curriculum (CBC).

In the new bill, teachers who wish to be registered by the Teachers Service Commission must prove their eligibility before registration.

The new set guidelines are affecting teachers with ECDE certificate from Montessori training, those with Special Needs Education and those holding certificates from foreign countries.

Requirements for Teacher Registration Under CBC

DECTE Teachers

These teachers with Diplomas in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) must have scored a mean grade of C ( Plain) in KCSE.

Those teachers with disabilities in this category should have a mean grade of C- (minus) at KCSE Level.

Diploma in Primary Teacher Education (DPTE)

Those teachers with Diploma in Primary Teacher Education must produce the certificate and must have a mean grade of C ( plain) at KCSE Level with D plain in Mathematics and C- (minus) in Englishbor kiswahili.

Those who have disabilities, must have scored a C- ( Minus) at KCSE.

Diploma in Secondary Teacher Education ( DSTE)

These category must have scored a C(plain) at KCSE Level and a C+ ( plus) in the two teaching subjects. Additionally, they must have scored a C ( Plain) in English/Kiswahili/Kenya sign Language and Mathematics.

Those with disability, must have attained a C plain in KCSE with a C- (minus) in English/Kiswahili/Kenya sign Language and Mathematics.

Diploma in Technical Teacher Education (DTTE)

These teachers must have scored a C plain in KCSE with a C+ plus in the two teaching STEM Technical Subjects. In addition, these teachers must be in possession of a diploma in General Technical Subjects that are offered at Junior and senior School levels.

Bachelor In Education ( Arts or Science) or Bachelor of arts or Science in Education

These teachers need to be in possession of the Degree certificate, Score a C+ plus at KCSE Level with C+ in the two Teaching subjects. On top of that, they must have scored a C- (minus) in English/Kiswahili/Kenya Sign Language with a D (plain) in mathematics.

Bachelor of Arts or Science

These category must have a mean grade of C+ in KCSE with C+ plus in the two teaching subjects. Additionally and more importantly must have a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and must have gone for teaching practice in the two teaching subjects.

Diploma in Adult and Continuing Teacher Education

This group must have a mean grade of C plain in KCSE and the certificate. Those with disabilities must have scored a C- (Minus) in KCSE.

Foreigners

Those teachers who might have gone through a different system of education in another country must produce certificates equated and must also possess a professional Education certificate recognized by a relevant body.

The foreigner also must obtain a work permit and be registered by the Teachers Service Commission and an authorization letter from Ministerial Vetting Committee.

Kenyans With Foreign Certificates

Those Kenyans who wish to be registered by TSC must produce the academic certificate that is equated and recognized by relevant bodies. Additionally, they must also produce a Professional Education Certificate and forms from a recognized institution.

Special Needs Education

Those with Diploma in Special Needs Education must have scored a C plain in KCSE and those with disabilities must have a C- (minus).

Those with Bachelor’s Degree in Special Needs Education must have scored a C+ plus in KCSE with C+ in Kiswahili/English/KSL, Biology and any art subject.

In addition, these teachers must have specialized in any of the areas of disability.

Those teachers with Diploma in ECDE Montessori must have a mean grade of C Plain and above in KCSE.

Documents Required During TSC Number Application

  1. Certified copies of academic and professional certificates. Alternatively, you can use the original documents.
  2. Bank slips from National Bank or Screenshot of Mpesa message if you paid Via simple mobile banking.
  3. National ID/passport for Non Kenyans.
  4. KRA Pin
  5. Certificate of good conduct
  6. GP69 form that is dully filled from a recognized health facility.
  7. Entry and work permits for Non-Kenyans.

Before you start the application process, ensure that you have deposited Sh1060 in Kenya National Bank and you have a pay-in slip or a screenshot of the message if you paid using Simple banking (Mpesa).

For those who will need to pay via direct banking, can use National Bank account number which is 01001005707400.

For those using Mpesa, can use the Mpesa Paybill 625625 and account number is your ID number starting with the word TSC e.g TSC12345678.

How to apply

You can follow the following procedure in order to submit your application.

  • Click on New Teacher Registration-: Citizen tab. A page like the one below will be displayed.
  • Fill in all the field indicated and once you are done, click next. A page like the one below will be displayed.
  • Fill all the necessary details above and click next.
  • A page will be displayed where you will be required to Upload all the necessary attachments as indicated on the portal.
  • Once all the data has been added, you can now click on submit application for review.

NB: Ensure that the details you provide during application are true since giving misleading information is a serious offence that can lead to a fine of up to Ksh 100,000 or jail imprisonment of up to 12 months or both for contravention of section 44 of TSC Act No. 20 of 2012.

How to check registration Status

From the date you submit your application, it will take less than a month for the commission to assign you the TSC number.

To check whether you have been assigned the TSC number, click here. A page like the one below will be displayed.

You will be required to enter your ID number and click search. If you have been assigned the number, it will display your name and the number assigned. If not yet, it will show you ‘in progress’.

After you have been assigned your number, you will receive your copy of the Registration certificate via the email or postal address provided.

If you fail to receive the re registration certificate, you can contact the commission for follow up.
