Today, JSS teachers in Kirinyaga staged peaceful demonstrations, demanding permanent employment terms and calling for an investigation into alleged corruption within the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
Josephat Kariuki, their chairman, urged the EACC to look into disparities in job opportunities between recent graduates and those from earlier years, emphasizing the need for fairness in job placements.
Under the hashtag #confirm and compensate, the JSS teachers vowed to continue their strike until they secure permanent positions. Kariuki highlighted concerns over corruption within the TSC, pointing out instances where recent graduates secure permanent jobs while others with more experience remain unemployed.
Moses Gachoki criticized Education CS Ezekiel Machogu, accusing him of favoritism in job appointments and calling for an investigation into these allegations. Gachoki expressed frustration over what he perceived as preferential treatment by the Education CS, citing examples such as directing regions to seek assistance from MPs while attending funerals in Kisii.

Despite facing threats, Gachoki reiterated their commitment to the demonstrations, citing their constitutional right to strike. The teachers believe that collective action is necessary to compel the government to address their concerns, particularly regarding adherence to court orders.
Anniel Kamau, a parent, voiced support for the teachers, advocating for fair compensation and recognition of their contributions to society. Kamau highlighted the stark contrast between teacher salaries and earnings in other professions, underscoring the need for equitable treatment of educators.
