List of Bachelor’s Degree Courses Banned By TSC

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has barred those seeking teaching jobs without valid Bachelor’s Degrees that are not following the set registration and recruitment guidelines.

This move is meant to ensure that only qualified individuals having qualifications that are inline with the commission’s recruitment guidelines are employed and allowed to teach in Kenyan schools.

“Applicants for registration whose training is in subjects that are currently NOT in the curriculum do not qualify, irrespective of having undertaken a Post Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) and Enhancement,” read part of the guidelines for registration of new teachers.

Initially, individuals who have done Postgraduate Diploma in Education were allowed to practice as teachers with these degrees. The commission in its guidelines has mentioned that even if you complete PGDE with these courses, you have no chance with TSC recruitment.

The commission argued that these courses do not provide adequate subject content in the two teaching subjects something that puts mastery of content into question.

On the other side, the commission admitted two sets of degree, Bachelor’s Degree in Science and arts who have a Postgraduate Diploma in Education and have specialized in the two teaching subjects are eligible for registration.
