Scoring a D- or an E in Kenya for many students may seem like missing many opportunities in higher institutions of learning as a government sponsored student. This notion has been in existence for years but we are here to dimistify this and give hope to these group of students.

You should understand that there are competitive courses that you can take that can lead to a successful career in life. Furthermore, you can also upgrade step by step until you parsue a degree, masters and even PhD.

This blog will enable you to identify some of the competitive and government sponsored courses for D, D- and E students in Kenya.

Students should understand that the grade you score in KCSE should not be an hindrance to parsuing your dream career no matter the approach you give it. What many youths fear is what their family and friends say if they realize what the course you are undertaking.

In Kenya, there is a body that is responsible for placement of students into various higher institutions of learning. This body charged with this responsibility is none other than the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).

This body places students with C+ and above for degree programmes in Public and private universities while this who scored C Plain and C- (minus) are placed for diploma courses in various institutions of learning.

Those with D+ and D (Plain) can apply for certificate courses while those with D- (Minus) and E are allowed to apply for artisan courses.

Those students placed in various Universities by KUCCPS are eligible for government sponsorship and can apply for HELB Loans.

Building and Construction

he courses offered under building and construction by the KUCCPS include;

Engineering and Technology

There are a number of courses in this cluster which include;

According to the 2023 KUCCPS revised list of courses, the following clusters don’t have courses offered currently;

  3. Hosipitality
  4. Natural Sciences
  5. Hotel and Tourism

There is only one course offered under the Information Technology cluster as stipulated in the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS).
