|Moi Girls High School Bus Swept By Raging Floods. The AIC Moi Girls High School bus carrying 52 passengers narrowly avoided a tragic fate when it was swept away by flooding.
This bus, donated to AIC Moi Girls in 2021 by then-President Uhuru Kenyatta, was part of a government initiative to distribute ten buses to secondary schools and community institutions nationwide.
The incident occurred in Suradiru, Samburu County, as confirmed by Samburu County Police Commander Thomas Ototo. Video footage captured responders aiding the stranded occupants of the overturned bus. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported at the time of the incident.
The crash took place on Maralal-Wamba Road when the driver attempted to cross a flooded river, highlighting the dangers posed by the heavy rains and resulting floods. This event occurred shortly before Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu extended the school reopening date to May 6, citing widespread flooding affecting schools across the country.
Meanwhile, tragedy struck in Kamuchiri Village, Mai Mahiu, Nakuru County, where twenty people lost their lives due to massive flash floods caused by heavy rains. The Kenya Red Cross reported that a nearby river overflowed, inundating the area with floodwaters.
Naivasha police captain Stephen Kirui confirmed the incident, revealing that several individuals were taken to Naivasha Hospital for medical treatment. Kenya Police, the County Disaster Team, the Kenya Red Cross, and local residents are actively responding to the situation, providing assistance and support to those affected by the floods.
