MPs Call On TSC to Confirm All Intern Teachers.

Three Members of Parliament, including Narok Woman Representative Rebecca Tonkei, Marakwet West MP Timothy Toroitich, and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro, are advocating for junior secondary school (JSS) teachers currently serving as interns to be granted permanent employment by the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC).

Tonkei, speaking in Narok Town, expressed support for the transition of intern teachers into permanent positions, noting that it is time for the government to make this move. She emphasized that intern teachers deserve better pay and stability, similar to other interns in public service.

Nyoro highlighted the substantial budget allocated to the TSC and urged the commission to confirm intern teachers, particularly those in JSS, on permanent and pensionable terms. He also called for the recruitment of an additional 20,000 teachers in the upcoming financial year.

Toroitich, while acknowledging a court decision upholding the employment of intern teachers, criticized those who pursued legal action against it. He called for respect for the court’s ruling and urged the TSC to consider appealing the decision to secure permanent employment for JSS teachers.

Toroitich also appealed to the Budget and Appropriations Committee to allocate more funds in the next financial year to confirm intern teachers on permanent terms and facilitate the hiring of more teachers.
