Performing Arts to Be Made Compulsory In Schools

Ezekiel Machogu, the Education Cabinet Secretary has stated that performing arts should be Compulsory under the new curriculum.

Machogu while attending the Kenya National Drama Festivals at Kangaru girls High School in Embu, he emphasized that performing arts should be taught right from pre-primary to Higher institutions of learning since it has been made part of CBC.

“We shall even have learning materials in CBC syllabus,” He stated.

Machogu further stated that all learning institution must take part in performing arts competitions.

“Performing art is not optional, it is compulsory and the government is taking the matter seriously,” Machogu Said.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that the Kenya Children are talented in drama and music and necessary support is needed to support their talents.

“We are investing heavily into performing art to tap into the great potential we have in the country, we have great talent among our young people who can even make it to international competition,” Machogu Said.

Machogu noted that’s the performances from children were getting better and urged teachers to encourage them.

“We have great improvements in performance compared to the previous competition that was held in Mombasa and our children will go far,” he said.

Mr. Machogu showed the government’s commitment to see success in CBC in order to benefit learners and country at large.

Machogu also mentioned that the government is committed to build classrooms in primary schools and employ 20,000 teachers in Junior School in order to avert the crisis witnessed in those schools.

Machogu said the government has set aside Sh. 9 billion to be used in infrastructural development in order to create more space for learners. The Sh. 9 billion will be factored in this year’s National Government Constituency Development Fund (NG-CDF).

“NG-CDF will be increased so that parliamentarians can use the funds to construct enough classrooms for CBC learners,” he said.

The National event at Kangaru girls High School attracted over 23,000 learning institutions across the country.

Tomorrow, 18th April, the president William Ruto will preside over the event.

The CS and other guests gave Kamusinga High School standing ovation after an electrifying performance.
