TSC Invites Appeal from 742 teachers, Confirmation of Intern Teachers

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has initiated an appeal process for 742 intern teachers who were dismissed due to a recent work boycott, according to an announcement by CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia.

Dr. Macharia also outlined plans to secure permanent and pensionable contracts for junior secondary school (JSS) intern teachers who are currently serving in schools. In addition to this, she revealed that more teachers would be promoted during the 2024/2025 financial year. “We thank the Government for allocating us Sh1 billion to promote additional teachers and address the backlog,” Dr. Macharia stated.

She urged school principals to encourage eligible teachers in their schools to apply for vacancies once they are advertised. “As principals, I urge you to encourage eligible teachers in your schools to apply for vacancies once advertised,” she elaborated.

Dr. Macharia warmly welcomed the 545 newly promoted principals who were attending their first meeting and pledged to continue promoting new teachers in the next academic year. She commended all teachers for their efficient work, which has ensured smooth operations throughout the academic year.

In her address to senior school principals, Dr. Macharia emphasized the importance of preparing adequately for the incoming crop of students expected to complete their JSS level next year. “However, as Heads of Institutions, you play a critical role in service delivery, particularly to teachers,” she reminded them.

Dr. Macharia also stressed the importance of ensuring timely payroll processing for newly recruited teachers, aiming to avoid salary arrears, overpayments, and delays. She highlighted the crucial role that school principals play in maintaining service delivery standards, particularly in ensuring that teachers are supported and motivated.
