TSC plan to employ 20,000 Teachers In July
|TSC plan to employ 20,000 Teachers In July. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has launched an ambitious initiative aimed at hiring an additional 20,000 teachers to tackle the ongoing issue of staffing shortages in junior secondary schools across the country.
This proactive decision stems from collaborative discussions between the TSC and the Kenya Union of Post-primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), highlighting the urgent need to strengthen the teaching workforce nationwide.
During a six-day conference held at Sawela Lodge in Naivasha, representatives from both organizations engaged in thorough discussions on various challenges within the education sector, with a particular emphasis on addressing the persistent problem of understaffing in junior secondary schools. Milema Omboko, the National Chairman of KUPPET, emphasized the immediate need for expanding the teaching cadre, estimating a financial commitment of Sh 4 billion for the recruitment drive.
Akelo Misori, the Secretary General of KUPPET, disclosed that 2,000 of the newly hired teachers would be allocated to marginalized Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASAL) regions, aiming to rectify geographical imbalances in staffing distribution.
Additionally, the TSC has committed to integrating all 26,000 junior secondary school interns appointed in 2023 into permanent positions with full pension benefits and entitlements, starting from January 2025.
This move signifies a significant long-term investment in the development and welfare of the teaching workforce, ensuring sustainability in the education sector. TSC plan to employ 20,000 Teachers In July
