|TSC Salaries and Allowances for Freshly Employed Teachers. The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) employees secondary school teachers purposely to implement the Secondary School curriculum. TSC also pays these teachers Salaries and Allowances as compensation and appreciation for their work.
The Commission has a mandate of registering, hiring and paying salaries of its employees.
A fresh graduates from the University once employed falls under job group C2 that is also designated as Secondary Teacher II. Once these teacher has been employed, he/she remain under probation for a period not less than six (6) months.
Some of the teachers, their probation period may be prolonged if the commission finds that his performance is not satisfactory. During this period, teachers should be careful on how they handle themselves otherwise the commission might terminate your employment if you get involved in any misconduct.
Once a teacher has gone satisfactorily through the probation period, he/she will receive a letter of confirmation on permanent and pensionable terms.
Upon working for three consecutive years, you will be promoted to the next job group called C3. This promotion from C2 to C3 is automatic and guaranteed for all teachers.
Majority of teachers who teach in secondary schools are graduates from universities with a few teachers having diplomas as the minimum qualifications for one to teach in secondary school.
There are a number of allowances that a teacher in job group C2 enjoys which include;
- Rental House Allowance that is paid at Ksh. 7,500
- Commuter Allowance that is paid at Ksh. 5,000
- Hardship Allowances that is paid to teachers working in highly risky areas across the country. The amount paid depends on the risks posed by that area.
The gross salary that you will earn is subjected to various statutory deductions where a newly employed teacher walks home with a net salary of Ksh. 38,000. Those who benefited from HELB are also deducted Ksh. 5,000 thus receiving a salary of Ksh. 33,000.

Other deductions that may arise include those from SHIF and NSSF/provided Fund.
Those who have joined a SACCO will also be entitled to SACCO deductions. If you have taken a loan, similarly you will be deducted the loan repayment for servicing the loan.
