Teachers employed by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) are paid salaries and allowances which act a motivation for them to offer their Services.

2021-2025 Collective Bargaining Agreement ( CBA)
Teachers unions including Kenya Union of Post Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET), Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) and the Kenya Union of Special Needs Education Teachers (KUSNET) signed an addendum agreement with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) on August 28, 2023 with respect to the 2021-2025 CBA which was a milestone for teachers.
This deal marked a milestone that would solve the continuous attempts to enhance Teachers’ salary that has seen teachers Unions silent and not threatening for a strike.
One of the major milestone witnessed was the revision of the salary structure for principals and Deputy Principals in job group D3.
Basic Salary Conversions
From the table below, there are significant modifications on the principals’ and Deputy’s basic Salary as compared with the initial pay they were being paid.

The increased basic salaries for these category of teachers includes the allowances which improves their salary packages.
Allowances paid by TSC follows different grades with D3 being the most dominant.
Hardship Allowances
These Allowances is part of the compensation that the commission gives to teachers working in areas with extreme conditions like insecurity. Deputies and principals working in these areas receive an allowance of Ksh 31,500.
Commuter Allowance
This is an allowance paid to teachers to facilitate their movement from there residence to school and back. This motivates teachers to wake up and attend to their duties in time.
Deputies and principals in Grade D3 are entitled to an allowance of Ksh 10,000.
Disability Allowance
Teachers who teach in special schools or handles learners with special needs are entitled to this allowance. Only those teachers who specialized in special needs can receive this allowance.
Teachers in this job group, D3 are entitled to an allowance of Ksh 20,000 per month. This is to appreciate them for taking their time to handle learners with special needs.
