The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) is committed to providing continuous retooling and retraining for teachers to ensure alignment with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
Alex Cheruiyot, TSC Rift Valley Regional Coordinator, emphasized the importance of teachers being equipped to handle changing trends and effectively manage classrooms as the education system fully transitions to a competency-based approach.
Cheruiyot underscored that the new curriculum demands innovative teaching capabilities, and revitalizing the teaching profession will uphold standards of quality, equity, and relevance across all educational levels.
Retooling, a process aimed at enhancing student learning by developing teachers’ professional knowledge and skills, plays a crucial role in this endeavor.
During a pre-session for junior secondary school (JSS) teachers in Nakuru, Cheruiyot highlighted TSC’s commitment, along with its partners, to support teachers in integrating ICT into their teaching practices.
This support includes continuous training programs to enable teachers to source and develop teaching aids and learning materials tailored to the CBC curriculum.
The Centre for Mathematics, Science, and Technology Education in Africa (CEMASTEA) is playing a significant role by enrolling 9,595 teachers in a training course focused on the expectations of ongoing curriculum reforms. This training emphasizes preparing learners for the demands of the twenty-first century workforce.
Cheruiyot emphasized that the training would enhance human capital, particularly in light of the shift towards remote learning through digital apps. This technological integration aims to enrich teaching and learning experiences while fostering greater engagement between teachers and students.

In addition to these efforts, Kenya’s education system is undergoing reform to enhance human capital and quality of life. This aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG), which advocates for inclusive and equitable education opportunities.
Cheruiyot stressed the importance of addressing the evolving educational needs of students and the contemporary world, requiring teachers to adapt accordingly. Stay updated with Teachers Updates on Facebook for more insights into these educational developments.
