TSC Updated Salary Scale For Newly Employed Secondary Teacher. The Teachers Service Commission employs graduate teachers and includes them in the payroll system.

A graduate teacher, falling under job category C2, earns a minimum basic pay of sh. 34,955 monthly. Initially known as job group K, these teachers are now designated as Secondary Teacher II.

In addition to the basic salary, a graduate teacher receives various allowances:

– Commuter allowance: Ksh. 5,000

– Leave allowance: Ksh. 6,000 (received once a year)

– House allowance: Monthly rate varies between Ksh. 7,000 and Ksh. 16,500 depending on the teacher’s station.

During the probation period, which typically lasts for 6 months from the employment date, newly employed teachers under permanent and pensionable terms undergo evaluation. The probation period may be extended if the teacher’s performance is unsatisfactory.

Upon completing three years of service, newly employed graduate teachers are automatically promoted to job group L, now known as C3. The promotion is initiated by filling out a form and sending it to the commission’s offices.

Statutory deductions are made from the teacher’s salary before it is deposited into their bank account. These deductions include NHIF, HELB, PAYE, as well as union dues, savings accounts, and third-party loans.

For teachers holding a diploma in teacher education, their monthly base compensation is slightly lower at Ksh. 27,195, with the same allowances applicable.
